Happy new year / Blwyddyn newydd dda

A happy new year from Draig Werdd to all our members/followers, and we hope that 2017 will bring good fortune to yourselves and to the society.   We are planning a number of activities for the early part of the year, including our St. David’s Day celebration, which will be taking place on Saturday March 4th in the Hampton Hotel in Donnybrook in Dublin.   This will be a dinner with guest speaker Huw Llewellyn Davies from Wales, so make a note in your diary – full details will be circulated later in January.  We are also making preparations for an unveiling ceremony for the plaque on the old Welsh chapel in Talbot Street in Dublin and will be sending out further details when these have been finalised.   In the meantime we’d like to wish you much happiness in 2017 and look forward to seeing you at one of our functions during the year.

Blwyddyn newydd dda i’n holl aelodau/ddilynwyr o’r Ddraig Werdd, ac rydym yn gobeithio y bydd 2017 yn dod â lwc dda i chithau ac i’r gymdeithas. Rydym yn cynllunio nifer o weithgareddau ar gyfer y rhan gyntaf y flwyddyn, gan gynnwys ein dathliadau ar gyfer Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, a fydd yn cael ei gynnal ar Ddydd Sadwrn Mawrth 4ydd yn Ngwesty’r Hampton yn Donnybrook yn Nulyn. Bydd hyn yn ginio gyda’r siaradwr gwadd Huw Llewellyn Davies o Gymru, felly gwnewch nodyn yn eich dyddiadur – bydd manylion llawn yn cael eu dosbarthu yn ddiweddarach ym mis Ionawr. Rydym hefyd yn gwneud paratoadau ar gyfer seremoni dadorchuddio’r plac ar yr hen gapel Cymraeg yn Talbot Street yn Nulyn, a byddwn yn anfon rhagor o fanylion pan fyddent wedi eu cwblhau. Yn y cyfamser, hoffem ddymuno lawer o hapusrwydd i chi yn 2017 ac edrychwn ymlaen at eich gweld yn un o’n gweithgareddau yn ystod y flwyddyn.

Dublin Welsh Society 1964-69 Cymdeithas Gymreig Dulyn

The Dublin Welsh Society was in existence in the 1960s – out of it was formed the Dublin Welsh choir, which is still in existence and has just celebrated its 50th anniversary (www.dublinwelsh.com).   The society was a successor to the old St. David’s Society and pre-cursor (by several decades) of Draig Werdd.    The minutes of the society meetings have now been collected into a single document and can be viewed online by going to http://www.welshsociety.ie/features.  More information about the society and images of membership cards for 1964-65 and 1965-66 are also available at this location.

Roedd  Cymdeithas Gymreig Dulyn yn bodoli yn y 1960au – allan ohoni ffurfiwyd côr Cymry Dulyn, sydd yn dal i fodoli ac sydd newydd wedi dathlu ei ben-blwydd yn 50 oed (www.dublinwelsh.com). Roedd y gymdeithas yn olynydd i’r hen Gymdeithas Dewi Sant a rhagflaenydd (drwy sawl degawd) i’r gymdeithas Draig Werdd. Mae cofnodion cyfarfodydd y gymdeithas bellach wedi cael eu casglu mewn un ddogfen ac i’w gweld ar-lein drwy fynd i http://www.welshsociety.ie/cymraeg/diddordebau. Mae rhagor o wybodaeth am y gymdeithas a lluniau o gardiau aelodaeth ar gyfer 1964-1965 a 1965-1966 ar gael hefyd yn y lleoliad hwn.

Chapel plaque update / Newyddion plac y capel

Draig Werdd recently met with Dublin City Council to discuss plans for erection of the plaque on the old Welsh chapel in Talbot Street, Dublin.  The council’s Commemorative Naming Committee has agreed to the erection of a plaque, as have the owners of the building, and the plaque has been created and is currently stored in the council’s offices.  However, due to the exterior condition of the building (see photo below), the council committee needs to agree an appropriate location for the plaque and to consider whether any preparation work needs to be done on this location.  No date has yet been set for the next meeting of the committee, but we will keep you informed of developments.

Mae Draig Werdd wedi cwrdd yn ddiweddar gyda Chyngor Dinas Dulyn i drafod cynlluniau ar gyfer codi’r plac ar yr hen gapel Cymraeg yn Talbot Street, Dulyn. Mae’r Pwyllgor Coffa ac Enwi’r Cyngor wedi cytuno i godi plac, yn ogystal â pherchnogion yr adeilad, ac mae’r plac wedi ei greu ac yn cael ei storio ar hyn o bryd yn swyddfeydd y cyngor. Fodd bynnag, oherwydd cyflwr allanol yr adeilad (gweler y llun uchod), mae angen i’r pwyllgor y cyngor i gytuno ar leoliad addas ar gyfer y plac ac i ystyried a oes angen gwneud unrhyw waith paratoi ar y lleoliad hwn. Nid oes dyddiad eto wedi’i wneud ar gyfer cyfarfod nesaf y pwyllgor, ond byddwn yn eich hysbysu am ddatblygiadau.
