Welsh lessons in Dublin / Gwersi Cymraeg yn Nulyn

Draig Werdd is pleased to be able to announce that following the success of this year’s classes a further Welsh language class, will be held in Dublin this spring. The class will be taught by Richard Morgan and will take place in Gael Linn, 35 Dame Street, Dublin 2 on Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm to 7pm.

The course will assume that students have studied the first ten lessons of the Cwrs Mynediad book by the Welsh Joint Education Committee and have also made significant progress on the Duolingo Welsh English course that is available on-line and also on a smartphone app. The course book to be used will be the Cwrs Mynediad (South Wales version), which is available for purchase on the internet via Amazon, Book Depository, GWales and other websites. The course will also include well-known poetry, hymns and short passages of text as appropriate.

The class begins on Tuesday the 30th of April and will run for 10 weeks. The cost of the course will be €80 for full-time students, €100 for Draig Werdd members and €120 for all others. Classes will be limited to a maximum of 8 participants.

S4C – Y Byd yn ei Le

The S4C current affairs discussion programme ‘Y Byd yn ei Le’ will be visiting Dublin next Monday and Tuesday, 25 & 26 March, to hear the opinion of people in Ireland on Brexit.  They are looking for Welsh speakers in the city who would be interested in taking part.   If you have an interest in getting involved, please contact Guto Llewelyn via email on guto.llewelyn@itv.com or by phone on +44-734-2071292.    He would be grateful for any assistance that you can give.

Wales v Ireland 16/3/19 Cymru v Iwerddon

We will be meeting at Doheny & Nesbitts, Upper Baggot Street, Dublin 2 on Saturday afternoon 16 March to watch Wales’ Grand Slam match against Ireland in the 2019 Six Nations.  Kick-off is at 2.45pm.  We have a private room upstairs reserved for our use, so come along to cheer on the team with fellow Welshmen/women.

Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol 17/3/19

The Welsh-language TV channel S4C’s next programme in their hymn-singing series ‘Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol’ , to be broadcast at 7.30pm next Sunday March 17th, will be coming from Ireland in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.  One of the items is a discussion between the presenter Ryland Teifi (another Welshman living in Ireland) and Draig Werdd committee member Geraint Waters about the old Welsh chapel in Talbot Street, Dublin.  This takes place upstairs inside the old building and covers some of the history of the building and the efforts of the society to preserve it and commemorate its use as a Welsh chapel and centre of the Welsh community in Dublin for 100 years.

Scotland v Wales 9/3/19 Yr Alban v Cymru

We will be meeting once again at Doheny & Nesbitts, Upper Baggot Street, Dublin 2 on Saturday afternoon 9 March for Wales’ next match in the 2019 Six Nations championship against Scotland.  Kick-off is at 2.15pm.  Come along to watch the match with fellow Welshmen/women.  Just look out for the red jerseys.
