“Gwlad” an online St David’s day celebration concert

Helo o orllewin Cymru, Hello from west Wales,

We wanted to take this  opportunity to share an exciting project that we have been working on here.

Last year we created a Community Interest Company ‘The West End of Wales, a collective of professional Welsh musicians who are currently out of work due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Founded by Laura Llewellyn-Jones and Iestyn Griffiths, we are actively supporting out-of-work professional Welsh-musicians and creatives and providing them with much needed paid working opportunities. The WeoW also recognises the impact of COVID-19 on the future generation of Welsh musicians and is working to minimise this by mentoring and inspiring the young musicians of the future through their education collaboration schemes and community projects.During lockdown we’ve been working together creating videos, which have been shared on our social media pages reaching far and wide.

Now we knew, that sadly our celebrations for St David’s Day on March the 1st wouldn’t be the same as normal.

Whilst we may not be able to celebrate in person, it does give us a fantastic opportunity to share our celebrations with Welsh communities across the world.

So, we’d like to introduce to you ‘Gwlad!’ a showcase that will see some of Wales’ finest performers and entertainers come together for a virtual concert to celebrate the day of our patron saint.

The concert features Welsh stars Rhod  Gilbert, John Owen-Jones and Lucie Jones along with performances from The Cory band, Only men aloud, Claire Jones with Chris Marshall, Choirs for good ,Kizzy Crawford, Rhydian Jenkins, Aaron Pryce- Lewis, Morriston Orpheus choir, Bella voce, Fanfare trumpets of the Welsh  guards… and us, The WEoW.
