Hedd Wyn & Francis Ledwidge 23/06/2017 Kells

As part of the Hinterland Festival 2017, which is taking place in Kells, Ireland, from 22 to 25 June, Kells-based historian and broadcaster Myles Dungan (Irish Voices from the Great War), presenter of the RTÉ radio History Show, and poet and academic Nerys Williams (Sound Archive) will discuss the connections between Irish poet Francis Ledwidge and the Welsh lyric poet Ellis Humphrey Evans (Hedd Wyn), who were both killed on the same day (31 July 1917 – the first day of the battle of Passchendaele, the third battle of Ypres) and are both buried, a few yards apart, in Artillery Wood Cemetery in Belgium. BBC Radio Cymru

BBC Radio Cymru’s football magazine programme ‘Ar y Marc’ will be broadcast live from Dublin on 25th March, the morning after Wales play Ireland in a World Cup qualifier.  They are looking for Welsh-speaking football fans who live in Ireland to speak on the programme between 8.30am and 9am.   If you’d like to take part in the programme, send an email to Sandra Morris at sandra.morris@bbc.co.uk.

Keep Calm and Carry On 23/03/2017

Next Thursday March 23rd at 7.30pm Aboutface Ireland are presenting a rehearsed reading of a brand-new Welsh play by Melisa Annis, about a middle-aged couple living in a large town in the Welsh Valleys in 2004, in mourning for their soldier son, and the young visitor who changes their world with a mysterious delivery. It’s a terrific new play, funny and deeply moving, which was developed at the NEWvember Festival in upstate New York and now they are presenting with a top-notch cast in the warm, informal setting of the Cellar Bar at the Stag’s Head (1 Dame Court in Dublin’s city centre), as part of their Winter Pub Reading Series 2017. Introductory Welsh Conversation Classes in Belfast

Consideration is currently being given to holding introductory Welsh conversation classes in Belfast.   These will be held in the TURAS offices, in the SKAINOS Centre (East Belfast Methodist Mission) on the Newtownards Road in Belfast.   TURAS is one of the four Irish language centres in Belfast.
