As part of a collaborative teaching initiative between the University of Limerick and the ‘Ports, Past and Present’ project, University College Cork, Margaret O’Connor from Raheny in Dublin has produced an online web page documenting the history of the Welsh Chapel in Dublin, which can be accessed at https://portspastpresent.eu/items/show/500. As well as containing much interesting information about the chapel from a number of sources, Margaret’s page also provides links to other online resources giving information about the chapel. Many thanks to her for informing us of her research project and we have been happy to provide whatever assistance we could. ‘Ports, Past and Present‘ is a project led by University College Cork in partnership with Aberystwyth University, the University of Wales Trinity St David and Wexford County Council examining the cultural heritage of the ports in the Irish sea basin.
We are still waiting for developments regarding the sale of the chapel prior to pursuing our goal of erecting a plaque on the building to commemorate its heritage, but the current Covid19 epidemic has prevented any progress to date. However, the plaque is in storage with Dublin City Council and the donations collected by us are still in our bank account, so we will continue to monitor the situation with a view to completing the project as soon as possible.
Fel rhan o brosiect ymchwil ‘Porthladdoedd, ddoe a heddiw’, mae Margaret O’Connor o Raheny yn Nulyn wedi cynhyrchu tudalen ar-lein yn dogfennu hanes Capel Cymru yn Nulyn, sydd i’w gweld ar https://portspastpresent.eu/items/show/500. Yn ogystal â chynnwys llawer o wybodaeth ddiddorol am y capel o nifer o ffynonellau, mae tudalen Margaret hefyd yn darparu dolenni i adnoddau ar-lein eraill sy’n rhoi gwybodaeth am y capel. Diolch yn fawr iddi am ein hysbysu am ei phrosiect ymchwil ac rydyn ni wedi bod yn hapus i roi pa bynnag gymorth y gallem. Mae ‘Porthladdoedd, ddoe a heddiw‘ yn brosiect a arweinir gan Goleg Prifysgol Corc mewn partneriaeth â Phrifysgol Aberystwyth, Prifysgol Cymru y Drindod Dewi Sant a Chyngor Sir Wexford sy’n archwilio treftadaeth ddiwylliannol y porthladdoedd ym masn môr Iwerddon.
Rydyn ni’n dal i aros am ddatblygiadau ynglŷn â gwerthiant y capel cyn dilyn ein nod o godi plac ar yr adeilad i goffáu ei dreftadaeth, ond mae’r epidemig Covid19 presennol wedi atal unrhyw gynnydd hyd yn hyn. Fodd bynnag, mae’r plac yn cael ei gadw gyda Chyngor Dinas Dulyn ac mae’r rhoddion a gasglwyd gennym yn dal yn ein cyfrif banc, felly byddwn yn parhau i fonitro’r sefyllfa gyda’r bwriad o gwblhau’r prosiect cyn gynted â phosibl.
