Plaque for Welsh chapel in Dublin / Plac i’r capel Cymraeg Dulyn

We have as yet been unable to resolve the stalemate that has developed between Dublin City Council and the owners and tenants of the old Welsh chapel in Talbot Street, Dublin, which will enable a commemorative plaque to be erected on the building.  The plaque is currently held in storage by the council, who are however unwilling to erect it given the building’s current external condition (see photo below).   The council requires that a section of the external surface be properly prepared and painted for mounting of the plaque, but repeated attempts by ourselves and by the council to discuss this requirement with the owners and the current tenants have not been able to resolve the issue.

However, the building is now for sale, so whatever plans the new owners have for the building we are hopeful that they will co-operate in facilitating erection of the plaque – thanks to the earlier efforts of Draig Werdd the building now has protected status which will prevent the new owners from making changes to its original features.   We are meeting with the council shortly to discuss the new situation and to agree a plan of action in order to bring the project to a successful conclusion.  We will keep you informed of progress.

Hyd yma, nid ydym wedi gallu datrys y problemau sydd wedi datblygu rhwng Cyngor Dinas Dulyn a pherchnogion a thenantiaid yr hen gapel Cymraeg yn Talbot Street, Dulyn, a fydd yn galluogi codi plac coffaol ar yr adeilad. Ar hyn o bryd mae’r plac yn cael ei gadw gan y cyngor, sydd ddim yn barod i’w godi oherwydd cyflwr allanol presennol yr adeilad (gweler y llun uchod). Mae’r cyngor yn mynnu bod rhan o’r wal allanol yn cael ei baratoi’n iawn a’i baentio ar gyfer gosod y plac, ond mae’r ymdrechion parhaol ninnau a’r cyngor i drafod y gofyniad hwn gyda’r perchnogion a’r tenantiaid presennol wedi methu datrys y mater.

Fodd bynnag, mae’r adeilad bellach ar werth, felly beth bynnag yw’r cynlluniau sydd gan y perchnogion newydd ar gyfer yr adeilad, rydym yn obeithiol y byddant yn cydweithredu gyda ni i hwyluso codiad y plac – diolch i ymdrechion cynharach Draig Werdd mae’r adeilad bellach gyda statws gwarchodedig sydd yn atal y perchnogion newydd rhag newid y nodweddion gwreiddiol. Rydym yn cyfarfod â’r cyngor yn fuan i drafod y sefyllfa newydd ac i gytuno ar gynllun gweithredu er mwyn cael canlyniad llwyddiannus i’r cynllun.
